BASIS OF WORK WITH MODX (part 1)

A content management system (CMS) is a shell that helps the site owner manage it by making the necessary changes and additions, in a simple way – the administrative panel.

We have already written about the advantages of ModX as one of the best CMS, but let us remind you that it is very convenient for beginners to work with it – the interface is very clear and simple. These circumstances allow us to recommend it to our customers, as well as to all people who are going to acquire their own website. Let’s take a closer look at working with CMS ModX and discuss step by step all the steps that a person who will work with the site will have to go through.

So, suppose that you have already gone through periods of creating a resource, such as:

development of a design layout and its approval;
site layout;
programming;
obtaining a domain name;
registration on hosting and site transfer;
website launch.
Now the most important stage is ahead: filling the site and subsequent work with it. Agree that an empty web resource will not do you any good, no matter how ideal it is otherwise.

Getting started in the admin panel
To start filling in, you must enter the admin panel of the site at YOUR DOMAIN / manager. Access keys (login and password) to which you should have already been provided by a specialist involved in layout and programming. Enter them in the appropriate fields and click the “Login” button.

After entering the admin panel on the left, you can see a list of categories. To open any of the subcategories, you need to click on the plus sign to the left of the parent category, which will show all the child documents. It should be noted that each category can contain as many subcategories as you like, a subcategory – subcategories, and so on. The only thing that restrains their number is the logic, structure of the site, the beauty of the display and the breadth of the range of services, products or the information that needs to be reflected in them. So, for example, creating the main subcategory yourself is not worth it, because it can lead to a shift of the entire menu and its ugly display on the page of the site.

Creating and editing documents
If you need to create a child resource for a category or subcategory, you just need to right-click on the parent element and select “Create a child resource” in the pop-up list. After this action, a new unfilled so-called page frame will appear. Which can be deleted by right-clicking on it and selecting from the list: “Delete”. To make a page inactive, that is, to cancel a publication, you can also right-click on it and then click on the item: “Cancel publication.”

Varieties of pages and their templates.
It is worth saying that pages (resources) are different. So, there are pages with a photo gallery, video, types of goods or services, text and picture content.

Page types are determined by templates. Their varieties for this particular site can be seen in the “Template” field, clicking on which a list of varieties of templates will be displayed

Photo and video templates are designed to add respectively only pictures and videos with a description.

Product templates are used for online mazinov or directory sites. Their purpose is to reflect information about goods or services.

The created text page requires filling information. Its simplest varieties are text and pictures. More complex are meta tags and linking.

After creating the site, the programmer will tell you about the purpose of each template.

Add photos
So, if you have a page with the ability to add photos, then you can add photos (pictures) there by clicking the “Insert” button and uploading the picture of interest to the server from the computer memory. In the open window, select the folder on the left where to download the picture, then click “download” and select the path in the computer. After downloading, the picture appears in the list. After that, double-click on it. If you did everything correctly, then you will see a picture near the input field. In some cases, when there are several pictures on a page, clicking on (+) adds a field for inserting a picture, (-) deletes it.
